Sh Rohail joins PML (N)

Former MNA and provincial minister Shaikh Rohail Asghar, along with his son Shaikh Khurram Rohail Asghar, have joined Pakistan Muslim League (N) on Monday.
While addressing a Press conference at a local hotel, Shaikh Rohail, flanked by his supporters, and the PML (N) provincial leadership, maintained that he had come to the same party fold from where he started his political career. “I have full confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and will do everything possible for the PML (N). Perhaps, it was my mistake of leaving Nawaz Sharif. Now my friends have decided that I should join the same party from where I started my politics,” he added. He maintained that he made all of his earlier decisions on his own. Rohail thanked his new party’s friends, especially Nawaz Sharif, for their support and welcome.
Rohail maintained that he was never actively participating in politics from the PML (Q) platform.
Shaikh Rohail Asghar was elected to the National Assembly in 1985 from the platform of the Muslim League, which was then headed by the late Prime Minister Muhammad Khan Jonejo. Later on, he joined the Pakistan Peoples Party in 1993 and contested the election for the Provincial Assembly seat from Lahore, and became minister later on. His father Shaikh Muhammad Asghar was MPA during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s rule, and was murdered later on. Rohail’s brother Shaikh Shakeel Asghar, also an MPA, met his father’s fate.
Rohail’s son, who also joined the PML (N), contested the last general elections from Lahore on the ticket of the PML (Q). He lost the seat to Begum Rehana Jameel of the PML (N). (November 7, 2005)
