Durrani attended NSC without consent of MMA Supreme Council

President Muttahida Majlas-e-Amal and Ameer Jama’at-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmad said attending the National Security Council (NSC) meeting was the personal decision of the NWFP chief minister Akram Durrani because the MMA has not yet permitted him to do so.
In a statement Wednesday, Qazi said the MMA was still adhering to its stance of not participating in the NSC taken in its previous meetings and it could only be amended by the MMA Supreme Council. "Next Supreme Council meeting will review the situation arising out of Akram Durrani’s participation in the NSC meeting," he added.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed said Gen Musharraf had again tried to consolidate his despotic rule by calling the NSC meeting at a time when there was a dire need of national solidarity. Condemning the decision of calling NSC meeting, Qazi said the need of the hour was to call joint session of the parliament under the chair of prime minister to debate the earthquake and its devastation to chalk out collective strategy to overcome the crisis.
Qazi expressed sorrow that such a big disaster could not bring any change in the dictatorial attitude of Gen Musharraf, which also exposed his future ambitions.
