All doctors working on contract basis and serving in the public hospitals will be made permanent and additional attractive salary package will be offered to those doctors, who would be posted at small cities and far flung areas.
It was also decided that all the Medical Officers with post-graduation degrees should be promoted.
These decisions were taken at a meeting held here on Wednesday, which was chaired by Punjab Minister Health Dr. Tahir Ali Javed.
It was also decided in the meeting that Special Selection Board (SSB) would be established at provincial level for unified policy in doctors’ selection. Additional marks would be given to those doctors having experience in the government hospitals and they would be given protection in pay fixation to save them from financial loss, while appearing before the SSB for any specific post on regular basis.
According to the Press release, it was also decided in the meeting that all the vacant posts of doctors in all cadres would be filled up as soon as possible; therefore, the SSB would be made strengthened to speed up the selection process. It was also discussed that healthcare in teachings hospitals would be further improved and vacant posts of professors, associate professors and other teaching staff in the medical colleges, especially in small cities.
A decision was made that either the doctors should be recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission or a recruitment body of the Health Department.
The meeting also decided that for the better prospects of the doctors, career structure was a must, which should be developed.
The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr. Farzana Nazir, Chairman Standing Committee Dr. Muzaffar Ali Sheikh, Secretary Health Javed Malik, Principal King Edward Medical College Dr. Mumtaz Hassan, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Dr. Sibt-ul-Hasnain Syed, Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, office-bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association and representatives of Contract Doctors besides others.
