The rulers would be responsible for the deaths resulting from inadequate shelter arrangements in the calamity-hit areas, said Deputy Secretary General Jama’at-e-Islami Dr. Fareed Ahmed Piracha in a statement on Saturday.
Dr. Piracha said hollow claims and unactualised promises could comfort no earthquake survivor. “The rulers should be courageous enough to face the reality. Will the government distribute cheques among the survivors when they meet their end?” he asked. Dr. Piracha maintained the relief efforts could be better coordinated under the supervision of the Parliament taking along the army and the civil administration, the NGOs and the people and the rulers should take steps in this direction.
